Charles J. Lyon, Sr.
June 27, 1926 - July 17, 2008
Charles J. Lyon, Sr., 82. passed away peacefully at Hospice Savannah on Thursday July 17, 2008. Charles was born June 27, 1926 in Nanterre, France. His parents, Theodore Crane Lyon and Angel Marcelle Roy Lyon met in France during WW I. The family returned to their Savannah home in 1929. Charles served in the United States Army in WWII. He was a Sgt. 1st class with the 48th Armored Division Medical Unit. As a combat leader, he received both a combat infantry badge and a Berlin occupation patch. After the war, Charles continued military services in the National Guard with the 48th Medical Division. Charles retired from National Gypsum - Gold Bond Building Products in Savannah, GA after twenty-five years of service. He was a long time communicant of St. James Catholic Church. Charles enjoyed watching sports with his wife Elaine, especially the Atlanta Braves games. He also loved playing tennis with his grandchildren and had a love for fine automobiles. His first wife, Dorothy Nease Lyon, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine K. Lyon; children, Jack Lyon Diane, Tommy Lyon Debi, Grace Merritt Robert, Angie Chu Bobby, 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, step-children, Billy Summerlin Laura, Patti Robison, Lisa Summerlin, Shannon Summerlin Paula, Stephanie Ross Bob, 11 step- grandchildren.
Visitation: 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with a Vigil Service at 8:15 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial: 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008 at St. James Catholic Church with the Reverend Mark Ross, Celebrant and the Reverend Patrick O'Brien, Con-Celebrant.
Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
